Bandung, UNIKOM – Universitas Komputer Indonesia (UNIKOM), in collaboration with Universitas Kuningan (UNIKU), held the International Community Service and Social Responsibility event on September 26, 2024, with the theme: “The Implementation of IT-Based Management Science in Improving the Performance of MSME.” The event, which took place in the Sindangjawa Meeting Hall, Sindangjawa Village, Kuningan Regency, served as a forum for academic and practical discussion on optimizing the application of technology-based management science to enhance the competitiveness of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
The event featured Prof. Dr. Ir. H. M. Yani Syafei, M.T., CSBA., Head of the Doctoral Program in Management Science at UNIKOM, as one of the main speakers. In his presentation, he emphasized that the application of information technology in MSME management is key to increasing operational efficiency, achieving more accurate decision-making, and expanding market access. According to him, MSMEs that can successfully adopt technology will be better prepared to face global competition and the changing dynamics of the economy.
The activity also featured Abdisamad Abdirahman Omar, Ph.D., Director of the African Institute for Multidisciplinary Studies (AIMS) Somalia, who is also a lecturer at the University of Hargeisa, Somalia, and a researcher at Ankara Haci Bayeam Veri University, Turkey. In his presentation session, he highlighted how data-based technology, the Internet of Things (IoT), and Blockchain can assist MSMEs in improving supply chain efficiency and ensuring transparency in their business operations. He stated that digitalization in business is no longer an option, but a necessity for MSMEs to survive and thrive in the digital age.
Also in attendance was Dr. Hj. Lili Karmela Fitriani, M.Si., Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business at UNIKU, who provided an academic perspective on the importance of synergy between the academic world and industry in advancing the MSME sector. She stressed that universities play a strategic role in providing mentorship and education to MSME actors, enabling them to become more digitally literate and utilize technology maximally.
This activity was not only a forum for sharing knowledge but also created opportunities for collaboration among academics, students, and industry players to develop more effective MSME digitalization strategies. Participants also benefited from networking, new experiences in the application of IT-based management science, and e-certificates as a form of appreciation for their participation.
With the successful execution of this event, UNIKOM and UNIKU further affirmed their roles in driving technology-based innovation to support MSME development. The synergy between academics and practitioners is expected to continue, with the goal of creating concrete solutions for strengthening the MSME sector in Indonesia. (Digital Marketing Division)
